The Grand Prix Celebration in Watkins Glen
To compliment the weekend's vintage auto races at Watkins Glen international is Friday's tribute to the rebirth of road racing in America, the Grand Prix Celebration in the hamlet of Watkins Glen. Starting with the famous re-enactment of tech inspection at Smalley’s Garage (the original home of tech from ‘49-‘61), the all-day street fair accommodated an endless array of various car shows, vendors, and racing memories lining the entire length of the town’s main artery and original GP straightaway, Franklin Street. The climax, the arrival of over 100 selected racecars to participate in the “curb-hugging crowd” favorite: circumnavigating the original 6.6-mile road course circa 1948.
